This post is one in a series of posts called “Glimpses of God” which I am writing as part of the Write31Days blog challenge. You can find the other posts here: 31 Glimpses of God Blog Challenge (#write31days)
Evidences of God’s glory are all around us. We can see evidence of His creativity all throughout nature. We can see evidence of His intricate design when we consider the human body. We can see evidence of His smile when we watch the antics of little children. We can see evidence of His supreme power when we gaze into the Heavens.
Yet, when we want to see the Father, when we want to stop and look at God Himself, where can we go? No human is able to look fully at God’s glory. He is the epitome of perfection and we are not. Not even Moses was able to look fully at God’s glory. God had to hide Moses in the cleft of a rock and cover him with His hand, and still Moses was only able to see the back of God’s glory.
So what’s a girl (or guy) to do when we are desperate to see a glimpse of God Himself?
The Bible tells us in John 14:9….we look at Jesus!
“…Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father…”
I love looking for glimpses of God’s glory throughout the day, and I rejoice when He allows me to see evidence of Him working in my life. However, I don’t want to get these glimpses confused with seeing God Himself through the person of Jesus.
The best place for me to go to see God’s glory revealed is my Bible. When my heart craves seeing the Father, all I need to do is open the Bible and read about the Son.
Jesus came so that we might know God. Everything He did was of God and for God.
This weekend, my husband and I were able to have a real date night. We lingered over dinner, arrived early at a movie, and drove the long way home. We spent focused time with each other. We have been running around for weeks busy with life, discussing only the imperatives, giving a quick kiss goodbye and hello. I’ve seen glimpses of my husband for weeks, but it wasn’t until we made purposeful time to sit with each other and really listen to each other that I felt that we had truly connected.
I don’t want to just rely on glimpses and evidence of God in nature. I want linger with His Son everyday so that I can really see and experience the Father.
My glimpse today was not simply a fleeting look, but more of a heart-stopping, knee bending, and life-changing gaze into the face of my Savior who revealed to me the heart of the Father.
See you tomorrow,
Jen
